titleOfInvention A composition and method for stabilizing trichloroethylene
abstract Trichlorethylene is stabilized for use in metal degreasing by the addition of a mixture comprising (a) a hydrazine derivative, preferably in an amount by weight of the trichlorethylene of 0.001-0.1%, (b) an alcohol, preferably in an amount of 0.01-1%, (c) an epoxide, preferably in an amount of 0.01-1%, and (d) a phenol, preferably in an amount of 0.001-0.1%. (a) may be N : N-dimethylhydrazine, benzalazine, diethylideneazine or dimethylketazine; (b) may be butyl, isobutyl, propyl, isopropyl, amyl, isoamyl or ethyl alcohol; (c) may be propylene, butylene, amylene, or chlorpropylene oxide; and (d) may be phenol, thymol, o-nitrophenol, eugenol, or isopropyl- or ethyl-p-hydroxyanisole. Preferred compositions comprise (1) N : N-dimethylhydrazine, isobutanol, butylene oxide and phenol, and (2) N : N-dimethylhydrazine, isobutanol, propylene oxide and o-nitrophenol. Specification 878,718 is referred to.ALSO:Trichlorethylene is stabilized for use in metal degreasing by the addition of a mixture comprising (a) a hydrazine derivative, preferably in an amount by weight of the trichlorethylene of 0.001-0.1%, (b) an alcohol, preferably in an amount of 0.01-1%, (c) an epoxide, preferably in an amont of 0.01-1%, and (d) a phenol, preferably in an amount of 0.001-0.1%.
