titleOfInvention Water-soluble derivatives of estriol
abstract The invention comprises 16 : 17-di-hemiesters of estriol with dicarboxylic acids and water soluble salts thereof, and their preparation by reacting estriol with a dicarboxylic acid or a functional derivative thereof and converting the thus obtained 16 : 17-di-hemiesters into salts thereof if desired. Suitable acids are oxalic, malonic, succinic, glutaric, pimelic, fumaric, maleic, malic, tartaric, aspartic, glutamic and phthalic acids, preferably used as anhydrides or halides in the esterification process, and the esters are preferably converted into the alkali metal, ammonium or substituted ammonium salts. Examples are given, the required di-esters being separated from concomitantly formed mono-esters by, for example, fractional crystallization.
