titleOfInvention Process for producing water-insoluble azo dyestuffs on fibres or foils of aromatic polyesters
abstract Azo dyestuffs are formed on aromatic polyester fibres or foils by applying, in either sequence, or together, from an aqueous medium, a coupling component containing a free carboxylic acid group and a diazoamino compound of the formula:- <FORM:0878738/IV(c)/1> wherein R and R1 denote radicals of the benzene or naphthalene series, R2 and R3 denote substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl or aryl radicals but without hydrophilic substituents and, when R2 and R3 represent alkyl, they may form together with the nitrogen atom a heterocyclic ring, X1, X2 and X3 denote hydrogen or halogen atoms or alkyl, alkoxy, trifluoromethyl, aroylamino, nitro, nitrilo or sulphonamido radicals, X4 denotes a hydrogen atom or the radical:- <FORM:0878738/IV(c)/2> and Y1 and Y2 denote hydrogen atoms or alkyl, alkoxy, aroylamino or sulphonamido radicals, and developing at an elevated temperature. The coupling component is applied from an alkaline or acid medium, the diazoamino compound from a neutral or weakly alkaline medium and, when applied together, from a weakly alkaline medium, at temperatures up to and above 100 DEG C., if desired, in the presence of carriers such as dichloro- or trichlorobenzene, diphenyl, diphenyl ether, and esters of aromatic carboxylic acids or hydroxycarboxylic acids, and the usual dispersing agents. Numerous diazoamino compounds and coupling components are listed and examples of dyeing are given. Specification 809,221 is referred to.
