titleOfInvention A nematocidal composition containing a chlorinated ethene compound
abstract The invention comprises the compounds 1:2 dichloro-1:2 bis(mercapto)-ethene and 1:2 dichloro - 1:2 bis (benzylmercapto) - ethene. These compounds are prepared by the reaction in the case of the former compound of hydrogen sulphide and in the case of the latter of benzyl mercaptan with tetrachloroethene by heating under reflux in a solution of sodium in absolute alcohol.ALSO:A nematocidal composition comprises one or more active ingredients of the formula (R1S)Cl.C = C.Cl.(SR2) in which R1 and R2 each represent a hydrogen atom an alkyl radical containing 1 to 5 carbon atoms or a benzyl radical in admixture with a liquid diluent in the form of a dispersion or in admixture with a solid diluent. Specified active ingredients are those in which R1 and R2 are the ethyl or propyl radical. Specified liquid diluents are water in which the active ingredient is emulsified or suspended or organic solvents e.g. acetone, esters of aliphatic carboxylic acids, mineral oils or tar oils solid diluents specified are alumina, talc, silica, chalk or fertilizers. The compositions may also contain dispersing agents and emulsifiers in the form of dusting powders, wettable powders or emulsion concentrates.
