titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to jointing or sealing polyvinyl chloride tubes into thesurface of another polyvinyl chloride article
abstract 875,931. Cooling cables. PIRELLI-GENERAL CABLE WORKS Ltd. Sept. 10, 1959 [Jan. 21. 1959]. No. 2268/59. Class 36. [Also in Group XXVIII] A metal-sheathed cable core 3 is surrounded by cooling tubes 2 of polyvinyl chloride which are jointed to a manifold tube 1 bent around the cable by inserting the ends of the tubes into an aperture in the manifold and initially cementing the tubes therein with a polyvinyl chloride paste composition 4 which has the property of gelling on the application of heat and of adhering to the surface of a polyvinyl chloride material when in contact therewith during gelation. The assembly is surrounded by a paper pulp or aluminium mould 5 into which a polyester or epoxy resin composition 6 containing a catalyst and, if desired, an accelerator in addition for the polyester resin, is poured so as to effect polymerization of the resin whereby sufficient heat is generated to effect a partial or complete gelation or solidification of the polyvinyl chloride composition and thus provide a fluid-tight seal between the tubes 2 and the manifold 1. The mould 5 may be removed after solidification of the polyvinyl chloride composition. In another arrangement lengths of cooling tubes are unwound from the end of the cable and inserted in a straight manifold tube located at some distance from the cable. Specification 875,930 is referred to.
