titleOfInvention | Improvements in or relating to steroids |
abstract | The invention comprises steroid derivatives of the pregnane or allo-pregnane series having an alkoxymethyl group at the 16-position and a ketone group at the 20-position, and the preparation thereof by reacting a steroid derivative of the pregnane or allo-pregnane series having a 20-ketone group and a 16-double bond with an alkoxy magnesium halide and the hydrolysing the product. The Grignard compound may be formed in the reaction medium either before or after the introduction into this medium of the starting steroid. Illustrative products of the invention are 3a -hydroxy-16a -methoxymethyl-pregnane-11,20-dione and the 3a -acetoxy and 3a -benzoyloxy-esters thereof. |
