titleOfInvention | Flameproofing coating compositions |
abstract | A flameproofing composition comprises (a) an aqueous polyvinyl ester dispersion which is not coagulated by electrolytes containing (b) a water-soluble electrolytic flameproofing agent. The polyvinyl ester may be a polymer of vinyl acetate and/or propionate and may be stabilized by an oxyalkylated cellulose, polyvinyl pyrrolidone or polyacrylic amide. The flameproofing agent may be mono- or di-ammonium phosphate, trisodium phosphate, potassium mono- or di-phosphate, magnesium ammonium phosphate, ammonium sulphate, ammonium sulphamate, ammonium bromide, ammonium chloride, ammonium borate, boric acid, sodium tetraborate, sodium pentaborate hydrate, sodium acetate, zinc chloride or aluminium chloride. The flameproofing composition may also include (c) an organic bubble-forming substance, e.g. dicyandiamide, dicyandiamide phosphate, pentaerythrite, sorbitol, mannitol, hexitol, a urea-formaldehyde resin, albumin or starch; (d) a plasticizer, e.g. dibutyl phthalate, dimethylglycol phthalate, dimethyl thianthrene, benzyl butyl adipate, ethyl hexyl sebacate or triethyl citrate, which plasticizer may be fire-retardent e.g. as in trichloroethyl phosphate, diphenyl cresyl phosphate, triphenyl phosphate, tricresyl phosphate, tetrachlorophthalic acid dibutyl ester, phthalic acid di-chloroethyl ester or phthalic acid di-chloro butyl ester; (e) an organic flame-inhibiting agent, e.g. a chlorinated paraffin wax or a chlorinated diphenyl; (f) a fungicide or insecticide, e.g. sodium-, potassium- or ammonium-fluoride or bifluoride, magnesium-or zinc-silicofluoride, mercuric chloride, arsenic acid, sodium- or potassium-arsenate, copper sulphate, sodium pentachlorophenate, dinitrophenol or dinitrocresol; and (g) a pigment, e.g. titanium dioxide, antimony trioxide, red or yellow iron oxide or green chromium oxide. Examples are given. Specification 871,254 is referred to. |
