titleOfInvention | Process for the production of chlorobromomethanes |
abstract | Chlorobromomethanes are prepared by subjecting a chlorinated methane to the simultaneous action of chlorine and bromine used in a molecular ratio of about 1 to about 1.3. The reaction may be effected in the gaseous phase at 200-450 DEG C., or in an inert liquid at ambient temperature under the influence of actinic rays. Thus CH2ClBr may be prepared by reacting CH3Cl with chlorine and bromine in about equimolecular amounts, the molecular ratio of bromine to methyl chloride being between 0.01 and 0.35; or CHClBr2 and CClBr3 by using a bromine to methyl chloride molecular ratio of between 1 and 1.5. Undesired reaction products may be recycled. Other products obtained in examples are CH2Cl2, CHCl2Br and CH2Br2. Specification 759,969 is referred to. |
