A gasoline composition containing an organolead antiknock agent also contains for every part by weight of lead 0.0011 to 500 parts by weight of manganese as a cyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl compound, and 0.00003 to 132 parts by weight of phosphorus, arsenic or antimony as a gasoline-soluble compound thereof. The gasoline may contain 0.02 to 13.2 grams per U.S. gallon of lead. The composition may contain esters of phosphorus acids, phosphines, phosphonitrilic dichloride, phosphorus sesquisulphide, arsines and stibines. In examples gasoline compositions and antiknock compositions for addition to gasoline, contain tetraethyl lead, diphenyldiethyl lead, tetramethyl lead, tetraphenyl lead, diisopropyldiethyl lead and tetrabutyl lead; cyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl, phenylcyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl, methylcyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl, indenyl manganese tricarbonyl, ethylcyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl and fluorenyl manganese tricarbonyl; tris (b -chloropropyl) thionophosphate, tricresyl phosphate, dimethyl monotolyl phosphate, dimethylxylyl phosphate, dimethylphenyl phosphate, dibutyl methane phosphonate, tributyl arsine, triphenyl stibine and triethyl antimonate; and ethylene dichloride, ethylene dibromide and trichlorobenzene. Other suitable compounds are mentioned. Specification 781,065 is referred to. |
