titleOfInvention | Improvements in or relating to steroids and the manufacture thereof |
abstract | The invention comprises 9a ,21-dihydroxy-4, 17(20)-pregnadiene-3,11-dione, 9a 21-dihydroxy-4-17(20)-[cis]-pregnadiene-3,11-dione 21-acetate, 9a , 17a , 21-trihydroxy-4-pregnene-3,11,20-trione 21-acetate and a process for the production of 9a -hydroxy steroids which comprises subjecting a steroids substrate comprising 9a -hydrogen-11-hydroxypregnane series steroid and substantially free from 11-methylene steroid to oxidation by a culture of a member of the group consisting of fungi of the genera Cunninghamella and Helicostylum and separating the thus-produced 9a -hydroxy-11-oxygenated steroid from the conversion products. Specified fungi are Cunninghamella blakesleeana and Helicostylum piriforme. Other species mentioned are C. elegans, C. verticullata, C. echinulata, and C. bertholletiae. Specifications 716,075, 724,094, 734,798, 771,344 and 781,712 are referred to. |
