abstract Acetylsalicylic acid anhydride is prepared by adding a solution of acetylsalicylic acid chloride in a water-soluble organic solvent to an aqueous solution of a salt of acetylsalicylic acid, prepared in situ from an aqueous suspension of acetylsalicylic acid; working up may be effected by washing the resulting precipitate of acetylsalicylic acid anhydride with an aqueous solution of an alkali-metal carbonate or bicarbonate, and acidifying the filtrates and washing liquors to recover unreacted acetylsalicylic acid and the acetylsalicylic acid formed in the course of the process.
