titleOfInvention | New butyric acid amides substituted at the nitrogen atom and ยช--carbon atom |
abstract | The invention comprises compounds of the formula: <FORM:0871252/IV (b)/1> (wherein R1 is hydrogen or alkanoyl of at most 4 carbon atoms, R2 and R3 are each alkyl of at most 3 carbon atoms, and R4 is phenyl or alkyl of at most 3 carbon atoms). They may be prepared (1) by heating b hydroxybutyric acid or an acylate thereof or alkyl or phenyl esters of these acids with the appropriate amine; or (2) by reacting a b acyloxybutyric acid chloride or bromide with the appropriate amine; or (3) by reduction of the corresponding acetoacetic acid amides; or (4) by reacting the corresponding b -aminobutyric acid amides with nitrous acid; or (5) by reacting b -butyrolactone with the appropriate amine. The b -acyloxy butyric acid amides of the invention may also be prepared by acylation of the b -hydroxy compounds, which may in turn be prepared by hydrolysis of the acyloxy compounds. Examples are given. Acetoacetic acid amides used in (3) above are prepared from diketene and the appropriate amine. Beta-acetoxy-butyric acid chloride is prepared from b -acetoxy-butyric acid and thionyl chloride. Specifications 648,888 and 662,719 are referred to.ALSO:A medicinal preparation comprises an amide of the formula <FORM:0871252/VI/1> (wherein R1 is hydrogen or alkanoyl of at most 4 carbon atoms, R2 and R3 are each alkyl of at most 3 carbon atoms, and R4 is phenyl or alkyl of at most 3 carbon atoms) in admixture with a pharmaceutically suitable carrier. The preparation may take the form of tablets or an injection solution. Specifications 648,886 and 662,719 are referred to. |
