titleOfInvention | New sulphonamides and preparations containing them |
abstract | The invention comprises compounds of the general formula: <FORM:0866785/IV (b)/1> and salts of these compounds, in which R is hydrogen or a hydrocarbon, preferably alkyl, group of 1-6 carbon atoms. The compounds are prepared either by treating the corresponding 6-halogeno-3-sulphanilamido-pyridazine with a metal hydrosulphide such as sodium hydrosulphide or a mercaptan of the formula HSR, or by treating a compound which contains a nitro or acetylamino group in place of the p-amino group, by hydrogenation in the presence of a nickel catalyst in the case of the nitro compound, or by hydrolysis with caustic soda in the case of the acetylamino compound, to give the desired sulphanilamido derivative. The products are used therapeutically against coccal infections. Examples describe the preparation of the 3-sulphanilamido derivatives of 6-mercapto-, 6-methylthio-, 6-ethylthio- and 6-isoamylthio-, pyridazine. 3- p- Acetylaminobenzenesulphonamido- 6-ethylmercapto-pyridazine is made by the action of ethylmercaptan on 3-p-acetylaminobenzene-sulphonamido-6-chloropyridazine. Specification 866,786 is referred to.ALSO:Pharmaceutical preparations for treatment of coccal infections comprise sulphonamides of the formula <FORM:0866785/VI/1> wherein R is hydrogen or a hydrocarbon, preferably alkyl, group of 1-6 carbon atoms, e.g. methyl, ethyl or isoamyl, or a salt thereof, in admixture with a pharmaceutical carrier. The preparations may suitably take the form of tablets, dragees, powders, salves, creams, suppositories, solutions, suspensions or emulsions, for enteral, parenteral or local administration. Specified salts are those of alkali and alkaline-earth metals. Specification 866,786 is referred to. |
