titleOfInvention Processes of production of new compounds with a "cortisone-like" action and productsthereof
abstract Ketones having "cortisone-like" activity of the formulae: <FORM:0866056/IV (b)/1> or <FORM:0866056/IV (b)/2> wherein R1 and R2 are hydrogen, hydroxy, methoxy or ethoxy groups or R1 and R2 form a methylenedioxy ring; R3 is hydrogen or hydroxyl and R4 is a hydroxyl group or a hydroxyl group esterified with acetic acid are made by reacting a 1-phenyl-1-halo-propane or 1-phenyl-2-halopropane optionally bearing m- and/or phydroxy, methoxy, ethoxy or methylenedioxy substituents with a mol of 1-phenyl-2-oxo-3-propano or its acetate in the presence of an alkali-metal alcoholate and an inert solvent. Products containing ether groups may be dealkylated to hydroxyphenyl compounds e.g. by HBr and acetic acid. 1-Phenyl-2-oxo-3-propanol and its acetate used as starting materials are made by treating the acid halide (phenylacetyl halide) with diazomethane and treating the resulting diazoketone with mineral acid or acetic acid respectively. Specification 523,320 is referred to.
