titleOfInvention | Method of treating fish skins |
abstract | Products for incorporation in fish meal and other feeds for animals are made by hydrolyzing fish skin with alkali in quantity sufficient to solubilize the protein but insufficient for formation of a colloidal solution, and then neutralizing. The alkali used may be 0,5-3% of the solids content of the skin. The hydrolysis may be at 150-200 DEG F. The liquid product may be centrifuged. According to examples, skin from fish is agitated for 2 hr. at 180 DEG F with a 55 DEG Tw. solution of flake caustic soda and the liquid obtained is neutralized with hydrochloric acid. |
