abstract | 864,572. Blasting processes and explosives therefor. NITROGLYCERIN A. B. Nov. 20, 1958, No. 37379/58. Classes 9(1), 9(2) and 68(1). Explosive charges for continuous feeding into boreholes by means of screw conveyers or pumps are rendered insensitive to blows and friction by the addition of at least 5% by weight of water. The explosive may be plastic, semiliquid or in powder form and screw, diaphragm or gear pumps may be used. The explosive may consist of 30% nitroglycerine gel and 70% ammonium nitrate, which by storage in a damp atmosphere is made to absorb 5À5% water. A second explosive, which is in powder form, consists of 80% ammonium nitrate, 7% aluminium powder, 4% nitroglycerine, 2% nitro-toluene and 7% water. A semi-liquid explosive was prepared from 36% di-(trinitroethyl)-urea, 18% ammonium nitrate, 23% calcium nitrate, 7À4% glycol, 13À5% water and 2À1% starch and could be pumped through a hose. All the ingredients of these explosives are chosen by weight. |
