titleOfInvention | Aluminium mandelate and methods of producing this compound |
abstract | The invention comprises aluminium salts of mandelic acid in which the mole ratio of aluminium to the mandelic acid radical is 1:2, 1:3 or 1:6 and a process for their preparation which comprises reacting mandelic acid with an aluminium alcoholate and also a process for the preparation of salts in which the mole ratio is 1:3 which comprises reacting calcium mandelate with a soluble aluminium salt or reacting pure aluminium or freshly precipitated aluminium hydroxide with mandelic acid. Examples describe the first method using aluminium methanolate in methanol, the second method using aluminium sulphate in aqueous solution and the third method using an aqueous solution of mandelic acid.ALSO:A medicinal composition comprises an aluminium salt of mandelic acid in which the mole ratio of aluminium to thee mandelic acid radical is 1 : 2, 1 : 3 or 1 : 6, incorporateed in a vehicle and which may be applied for example to the throat to treat a throat infection. |
