abstract | In making cellular rubber products by compounding a rubber latex or other aqueous rubber dispersion with gelling and vulcanizing ingredients, foaming by beating in air shaping the foamed compounded dispersion and causing or allowing it to gel, and vulcanizing, there is introduced into the system, or formed in it, a compatible fatty acid soap of a metal of valency at least 2, the amount of this soap being 0,2-10% of the rubber. Examples are concerned with making sponge rubber by foaming compounded 60% ammonia-preserved latex, aluminium stearate, aluminium palmitate or zinc stearate being incorporated before the foaming or aluminium naphthenate being formed in the wet foam rubber by the action of aluminium chloride solution on sodium naphthenate present.
