abstract 860,597. Blasting fuses, manufacture. OLIN MATHIESON CHEMICAL CORPORATION. July 24, 1959 [Sept. 24, 1958], No. 25505/59. Class 9(1). A closure plug for electric blasting caps is moulded around the lead wires by inserting the bared ends 4 of the wires 5 in openings 3 in the base of moulds 2. The cavities 2 are then filled with an epoxy resin pre-polymer containing about 8% diethylene triamine as a cross-linking catalyst. The die block is then kept for about 3 days at 45‹ C. before removing the finished plugs. In a modification, Fig. 3, a pre-formed cup 6 of ethyl cellulose with apertures in the base 7 to receive the leg-wires 3 is filled with the resin and cured as before. The cup 6 may be of rubber o other resilient material around which a meta detonator case may be crimped. The plug ma also be moulded from polyamides, polyurethane and self-curing or water-catalyst polymeri preparations such as alpha-cyanoacrylic acid The lead wires may be iron, copper, aluminiur or alloys thereof and may be tinned. Plasti insulation on the wires may be ethyl cellulose cellulose acetate, cellulose acetate butyrate polyvinyl resins, polyamides or polyethylene Knurling may be provided on the leg-wires t improve the bonding with the plug.
