titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to the recovery of trimethyl borate
abstract The trimethyl borate content of trimethyl borate-methanol solutions is increased by intimately admixing a solution consisting essentially of methanol and trimethyl borate with a mineral oil in an amount in excess of the solubility limit of said mineral oil in said solution to yield a mixture which breaks into two phases and recovering methanol and trimethyl borate from the oil-rich phase in which the proportion of trimethyl borate to methanol is greater than that in the original solution. The methanol and trimethyl borate may be obtained from the oil-rich phase by fractional distillation, separating a first fraction consisting of methanol-borate azeotrope and a second fraction of higher boiling range and consisting of substantially pure trimethyl borate. Preferably the proportion of trimethyl borate in the starting mixture should not exceed that which forms an azeotrope with the methanol and solutions containing more trimethyl borate than the azeotrope are preferably fractionated to recover as much trimethyl borate as possible leaving the azeotrope to be treated by the above process.
