titleOfInvention Printing and dyeing compositions and method of treating textiles
abstract A composition for printing, dyeing or padding textiles or other fibre substrata consists of an aqueous emulsion of a copolymer of ethylenically unsaturated mononers which contain in the molecule at least one grouping: <FORM:0849921/IV(a)/1> wherein R1 denotes a hydrogen atom or an alkyl, aralkyl or aryl group and R2 denotes an alkyl group, a pigment and, if desired, cross-linking agents, fillers, plasticisers, emulsifiers, thickeners and catalysts splitting off acid groups at elevated temperature. Copolymers specified are those of (a) butadiene, butyl acrylate, styrene and the methyl methylol ether of methacrylamide, (b) butadiene, acrylonitrile, butyl acrylate, styrene and the ethyl methylol ether of methacrylamide, (c) butyl acrylate, acrylonitrile, acrylamide and the methyl methylol ether of methacrylamide, (c) butyl acrylate, acrylonitrile, vinyl methyl ether and the ethyl methylol ether of methacrylamide, (d) butyl acrylate, styrene and the methyl methylol ether of methacrylamide, (e) dodecyl acrylate, acrylonitrile, vinyl methyl ether, styrene and the methyl methylol ether of methacrylamide and (f) hexyl methacrylate vinylidene chloride and the methyl methylol ether of the dodecyl ester of maleic acid mono amide. Other copolymerisable monomers specified are isoprene, dimethylbutadiene, chloroprene, glycol diacrylate, allyl acrylate, vinyl chloride, vinyl acetate and butyrate and maleic and fumaric diesters. Pigments specified are carbon black, bronze powder, copper phthalocyanine, insoluable azo dyestuffs and 1,5-bis(benzoyl-amino) anthraquinone. Other specified ingredients of the compositions are resin-forming condensates of formaldehyde with phenols, urea, dicyandiamide, and melamine, ammonium polyacrylate, the reaction product from stearyl alcohol and ethylene oxide, sorbitol trioleate, ammonium alginate, tragacanth, polyacrylamide, triethanolamine, ethylene glycol, benzine, chlorobenzene, chlorotoluene, urea, ammonium nitrate and phosphate and glycolic acid. Specifications 792,874 and 802,516 are referred to.ALSO:Textile fabrics, e.g. those made from cotton and fibres of polyamides, polyurethanes, polyacrylonitrile and cellulose acetate, are printed, padded or dyed by applying thereto a composition containing as the binding agent a copolymer of a methylol ether of an unsaturated amide containing in the molecule at least one grouping: <FORM:0849921/IV (c)/1> wherein R1 denotes a hydrogen atom or an alkyl, aryl or aralkyl group and R2 denotes an alkyl group (see Group IV(a)) and a pigment, and then cross-linking the finishes obtained with the application of elevated temperatures and/or alcoholysing agents, particularly acids, and, if desired, with polyfunctional compounds capable of reacting with cross-linking with the methylol ether groups or groups formed therefrom. Pigments specified are carbon black, bronze powder, copper phthalocyanine, insoluble azo dyestuffs and 1, 5-bis (benzoyl-amino) anthraquinone. Other specified ingredients of the compositions are resin-forming condensates of formaldehyde with phenols, urea, dicyandiamide and melamine, thickening agents, emulsifiers, solvents and catalysts capable of splitting off acid groups at elevated temperatures. Specifications 792,874 and 802,516 are referred to.
