titleOfInvention | New organic compounds of tin and a process for their manufacture |
abstract | The invention comprises polyoxyethylated organotin compounds (or organotin polyglycollato compounds) of formula R1xSn[(OCH2CH2)n-Z]4-x wherein R1 represents a C1-6 alkyl radical, phenyl or cyclohexyl, x represents 1,2 or 3, Z represents an organic or inorganic acid radical or the hydroxyl group and n represents a number from 1 to 50. They may be prepared by passing ethylene oxide at elevated temperature and preferably under pressure into the selected organotin compound e.g. butyl tin trichloride, dibutyl tin dichloride, tributyl tin chloride, triphenyl tin chloride, triphenyl tin acetate, dibutyl tin diacetate, dibutyl tin bis-(o:o-diethylphosphate), tributyl-(p-toluenesulphonamido)-tin or biphenyl tin hydroxide. A catalyst such as tin tetrachloride, potassium hydroxide, sodium hydroxide, potassium or sodium alcoholate may be present. The products have fungicidal properties. Compounds prepared include tri-butyl tin polyglycollato chloride, dibutyl tin bis-(polyglycollato-chloride), dibutyl tin bis-(polyglycollato acetate), triphenyl tin #x-polyglycollato chloride, triphenyl tin polyglycollate and tri-cyclo-hexyl tin polyglycollato chloride. |
