titleOfInvention Process for the production of l-erythro-5-amino-6-phenyl-1,3-dioxanes
abstract L - Erythro - 5 - amino - 6 - phenyl - 1 : 3 dioxanes of the formula <FORM:0840365/IV(b)/1> in which R1 and R2 are hydrogen or substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, hydroaromatic or heterocyclic radicals or are joined to form a ring, are obtained from the corresponding L - threo - 5 - amino - 6 - phenyl1 : 3-dioxanes or the corresponding oximes thereof (prepared from the amino compound by treatment with hydrogen peroxide in presence of tungstic or molybdic acid) by oxidizing them to the corresponding 5-nitro compounds and reducing the latter to the corresponding 5-amino compounds. The proportion of erythro form in the nitro compounds may be improved by conversion into the aci-salt with alkali, followed by subsequent acidification to regenerate the nitro compound. The oxidation of the amino or oximino group to a nitro group is preferably effected with a urea-hydrogen peroxide adduct, but may also be effected with peracetic acid or peroxytrifluoroacetic acid. The reduction step is preferably by means of catalytic hydrogenation. Specifications 673,864, 735,454 and 741,711 are referred to.
