Sealing compositions of putty-like consistency comprise a resin resistant to attack by hydrocarbon solvents and a liquid long chain molecule polymeric material which is a plasticizer for said resin, together with sufficient filling material to give the required consistency. The resin may be a vinyl chloride-vinyl acetatecopolymer or vinyl chloride-vinyl acetatemaleic acid terpolymer. The plasticizer may be a liquid polyester, e.g. polypropylene adipate or sebacate. The filler is preferably partly fibrous, e.g. asbestos, and partly non-fibrous, e.g. talc and whiting. The compositions may also contain other plasticizers, e.g. dioctylphthalate and trixylenyl phosphate, stabilizers, e.g. dibutyl tin dilaurate, and maleic or stearic acid; and may be used for sealing containers, e.g. for use with aircraft fuels. Specification 572,676 is referred to. |
