titleOfInvention | Phosphonic acid ester fluorides |
abstract | The invention comprises compounds of the formula <FORM:0837073/IV (b)/1> where X and Y are oxygen or sulphur, R is an alkyl radical containing up to 4 carbon atoms, and R1 is an alkyl radical containing up to 6 carbon atoms or a monochloro-substitution product thereof. These compounds may be prepared by reacting a compound of formula <FORM:0837073/IV (b)/2> with an alkali metal fluoride in the presence of an alkanol or monochloroalkanol containing 1-6 carbon atoms; the reaction may be effected in an inert solvent, preferably at 65-80 DEG C. The starting phosphonic or thionophosphonic acid chlorides may be prepared by reacting a vinyl ether or vinyl mercaptan RX-CH = CH2 with PCl5 to give RX-CHClCH2-PCl4, and reacting this with H2SO3\t or SO2 to give <FORM:0837073/IV (b)/3> This last compound, or the compound p RX-CHCl-CH2-PCl4 may be reacted with H2S to give the corresponding thionophosphonic acid derivative.ALSO:Insecticidal compositions comprise one or more phosphonic acid ester fluorides of the formula <FORM:0837073/VI/1> where X and Y are oxygen or sulphur, R is an alkyl radical containing up to 4 carbon atoms, and R1 is an alkyl radical containing up to 6 carbon atoms or a monochloro-substitution product thereof; together with an inert solid or liquid carrier or diluent. The concentration of active ingredient may be 0.00001-1% by weight. Suitable diluents are talc, chalk, bentonite, clay, water (with or without an emulsifier), an alcohol, a ketone or a liquid hydrocarbon. Other insecticides and/or fertilizers may be present. |
