titleOfInvention Means for the transportation of low temperature liquids
abstract 836,667. Storing liquified gases. CONSTOCK LIQUID METHANE CORPORATION. Dec. 31, 1957 [Jan. 16, 1957], No. 40475/57. Class 8(2). [Also in Group XXXIII] Tanks, for storing liquefied gases in a transporting means such as a ship, are mounted in such a manner that their vertical central axis remains fixed irrespective of contraction and expansion of the tank. The bottom 20 of the tanks, Fig. 2, are provided with keys 46, 48 extending radially from the vertical central axis of the tank, their being provided complementary keyways 50, 52, Fig. 1, in the insulation 24 surrounding the tank. Alternatively the keys may be formed in the insulation and keyways on the tank. The keyways are preferably strengthened by balsa wood. In order to stabalize the tanks against movements of the transporting means, the top of the tanks 10, Fig. 1, are connected to the structure 40 of the transporting means by cables 32, 34 parallel to the transverse and longitudinal axes of the tank. The lengths of the cables are preferably chosen such that when the tank contracts the cables, moving in an arc about the structure, are not unduly strained.
