titleOfInvention Process for the manufacture of ª‡:ª‰-di-[aryloxazolyl-(2)]-ethylene compounds
abstract a :b - Di - [aryloxazolyl - (2)] - ethylene compounds of the formula <FORM:0835897/IV (b)/1> in which R1 and R2 each represent an aryl residue are manufactured by heating an azole compound of formula <FORM:0835897/IV (b)/2> with an agent capable of splitting off water. The starting materials may contain further substituents such as alkyl and alkoxy groups containing up to 4 carbon atoms, halogen atoms and nitro groups. Suitable agents for splitting off water are, for example, zinc chloride, aryl-sulphonic acids, boric acid and sulphur trioxide. The process is preferably carried out at a temperature between 100 DEG and 200 DEG C. The starting materials may be obtained by condensing two molecular proportions of an orthohydroxy-aminoaryl compound with one molecular proportion of thiomalic acid or an alkyl mono- or di-ester thereof, preferably in an inert organic solvent in accordance with the process described and claimed in Specification 835,896. In the examples the following compounds are prepared:- <FORM:0835897/IV (b)/3> <FORM:0835897/IV (b)/4> and (c) <FORM:0835897/IV (b)/5> The method of preparing the starting materials is given in each case. Specification 835,898 also is referred to.ALSO:a .b - di - (aryloxazolyl - (2)] - ethylene compounds of formula <FORM:0835897/IV(c)/1> in which R1 and R2 are aryl residues, which may contain further substituents such as alkyl and alkoxy groups containing up to 4 carbon atoms, halogen atoms and nitro groups, are produced by heating compounds of formula <FORM:0835897/IV(c)/2> with an agent capable of splitting off water, e.g. zinc chloride, aryl sulphonic acids, boric acid and sulphur trioxide. Specification 835,896 is referred to.
