abstract | The invention comprises amides of 12-keto10 : 11 - octadecenoic acid, 12 - keto - 10 : 11epoxystearic acid and 12 - keto - 10 : 11 - dihydroxy stearic acid of the formula C6H13 CO.Z.(CH2)8.CO.NH.X.N(R)R1 where X is a C1-6 alkylene radical, R and R1 are each C1-6 alkyl radicals, and Z is a vinylene, epoxy-ethylene or 1 : 2-dihydroxyethylene radical. Preferably X is an alkylene radical having 2 or 3 carbon atoms and R and R1 are radicals of not more than 2 carbon atoms. The compounds are made by reacting equimolecular amounts of the acid and a lower alkyl chloroformate such as ethyl, isobutyl or propyl chloroformate in the presence of an equimolecular amount of a lower aliphatic tertiary amine and reacting the resulting acylalkyl carbonate with a dialkylaminoalkylamine. Examples describe the preparation of the N-dimethylaminoethyl -, N - g - diethylaminopropyl-, N-diethylaminoethyl and N-d -diethyl-amino - a - methylbutyl -, 12 - keto - 10 : 11-octadecenoamides; the N-g -dimethylamino-propyl-, N-diethylaminoethyl- and N-g -diethyl-aminopropyl -, 12 - keto - 10 : 11 - epoxystearamides and the N-dimethylaminoethyl-and N - diethylaminoethyl -, 12 - keto - 10 : 11-dihydroxystearamides. 12 - Keto - 10 : 11 - epoxystearic acid is made by oxidizing 12-keto-10 : 11-octadecenoic acid with hydrogen peroxide and osmium tetroxide. |
