titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to dry seed dressing compositions
abstract A pulverulent dry seed dressing composition comprises an insecticide and a fungicide, bactericide or viricide, respectively capable of protecting seed and seedlings against insect pests and soil and seed borne fungus, bacterial or virus diseases, the total biocidal compounds preferably being in an amount from 15 to 95% by weight of the composition of which 50-99% is insecticide and a solid carrier therefor having a sorptive capacity measured by the method disclosed in the Specification of at least 20, e.g. attapulgite clay, china clay, spanish clay, or a synthetic calcium or magnesium silicate, at least 90% of the particles of the composition having an average effective diameter of at least 15 microns. Specified insecticides are 1 : 2 : 3 : 4 : 10 : 10 - hexachloro - 1 : 4 : 4a : 5 : 8 : 8a - hexa - hydro - endo - 1 : 4 - exo - 5 : 8 - dimethanonaphthalene, or its epoxy derivative; 1 : 2 : 3 : 4 : 10 : 10 - hexachloro - 1 : 4 : 4a : 5 : 8 : 8a - hexa - hydro - endo - 1 : 4 - endo - 5 : 8 - dimethanonaphthalene or its epoxy derivative; a chlorinated 4 : 5 : 7 : 7 : 8 : 8-hexachloro-4 : 7-endomethylene-3a : 4 : 7 : 7a-tetrahydroindane having an average of 7.5 to 8.5 chlorine atoms per molecule; a chlorinated 4 : 5 : 6 : 7 : 10 : 10 - hexachloro-4 : 7-endomethyl - 4 : 7 : 8 : 9 - tetrahydrophthalan having an average of 6.5 to 10 chlorine atoms per molecule; or 1-fluoro-3 : 4 : 5 : 6 : 7 : 10 : 10-heptachloro - 4 : 7 - endomethylene - 4 : 7 : 8 : 9-tetrahydrophthalan, 1 : 3-difluoro-4 : 5 : 6 : 7 : 10 10 - hexachloro - 4 : 7 - endomethylene - 4 : 7 : 8 : 9-tetrahydrophthalan, heptachlor, chlordane, the sulphite of hexachlorobicyclo [2.2.1]-heptadiene - (2 : 5) - bishydroxy - methylene - (5 : 6) or a mixture of isomers thereof: the sulphite of hexachlorobicyclo [2.2.1] - heptene - 2 - bis - hydroxymethylene - (5 : 6) or a mixture of isomers thereof and D.D.T. Specified fungicidal or bactericidal substances are tetramethyl thiuram disulphide, ethylene bisthiuram disulphide, and propylene 1 : 2-bisthiuram disulphide and the corresponding monosulphides: zinc ethylene bisdithiocarbamate and ferric dimethyl dithiocarbamate; chlorinated quinones, for example, chloranil and 2 : 3-dichloro-1 : 4-naphthoquinone; phenyl mercury chloride, phenyl mercury acetate, phenyl mercury urea, ethyl mercury chloride, ethyl mercury phosphate, methoxy ethyl mercury acetate and methyl mercuric dicyandiamide; triethyl tin chloride, triisopropyl tin hydroxide or acetate. Specified viricidal substances are phenyl glyoxal, 2-furyl glyoxal, anthradiquinone, 6-methylpurine and 6-chloropurine. A stabilizer or acid neutralizing agent such as urea or hexamethylene tetramine, in minor proportion, for example, 0.1 to 5.0% by weight based on the weight of the insecticidal substances, and a minor proportion of a dye may also be incorporated. Specifications 692,546, 692,547 and 714,688 are referred to.
