titleOfInvention | Pharmaceutical compositions containing salts of tetracycline or oxytetracycline |
abstract | Aqueous injectable preparations of salts of tetracycline or oxytetracycline comprise (1) one or more of said salts, (2) one or more alkali-metal or alkaline earth metal bisulphites, (3) one or more parenterally-acceptable carboxylic acid amides, (4) one or more parenterally-acceptable organic and/or inorganic bases in amount such that the pH is 5.0-7.0. Advantageously the pH is adjusted by an alkanolamine which corresponds to the basic component of the carboxylic acid amide used such as ethanolamine or diethanolamine in conjunction with lactic acid hydroxyethylamide or acetic acid hydroxyethylamide, and 1,2-dihydroxypropylamine in conjunction with succinic acid-1,2-dihydroxypropylamide. Specified components: (1) oxytetracycline hydrochloride and tetracycline hydrochloride, which may be admixed with a compound giving a magnesium ion such as magnesium chloride hexahydrate, (2) sodium bisulphite, (3) amides of acetic, lactic, b -hydroxybutyric, succinic, adipic, tartaric, gluconic, salicylic acids and tartaric acid N - (2 - hydroxypropyl) - ethylene diamide and salicylic acid-ethanol-l-methyl-isopropanol-amide, (4) sodium hydroxide, ethanolamine, diethanolamine, b ,g - dihydroxypropylamine, 1 - aminopropanol - 2, 1 - aminopropanol - 3, diisopropanolamine, 1,2 - dimethylethanolamine, N - aminoethylethanolamine, 2 - amino-2-methyl-1,3-propanediol. |
