titleOfInvention Improvements in printing and discharge printing textile materials
abstract In the printing or discharge printing of textile materials a paste is employed containing a vat dyestuff or a disperse dyestuff resistant to reducing agents or a mixture thereof, an amine, a reducing agent comprising a water-insoluble or sparingly soluble salt of a hydroxyalkyl sulphinic acid, a thickening agent and a swelling agent. Specified amines are ethylene diamine, dodecylamine, diethanolamine, di-isopropanolamine, n-butyl-ethanolamine, triethanolamine, tripropylamine, cyclohexylamine, hexahydro-o-toluidine, N-methylcyclohexylamine, dimethylaniline and dimethyl-p-phenylene diamine. Specified reducing agents are the calcium, barium or secondary zinc salts of hydroxymethane-, hydroxyethane- and hydroxybutane-sulphinic acids. Specified thickeners are crystal gum and tragacanth. Specified swelling agents are phenol, resorcinol, ammonium oxalate, polyethylene glycol and the sodium salt of benzylsulphanilic acid. Examples describe the direct printing of fabrics of cotton, regenerated cellulose fibres and polyethylene terephthalate fibres, and the colour discharge printing of fabrics of cellulose acetate, cellulose triacetate, polycaprolactam and wool fibres. Specifications 702,040, 702,041 and 711,154 are referred to.
