titleOfInvention | Improvements relating to the production of filaments, threads, fibres and the like from viscose |
abstract | Organic sulphonium compounds having the general formula <FORM:0829499/IV (b)/1> where R1 and R2 are alkyl or aryl groups containing 8 carbon atoms or less, R3 is a ketone residue and X is fluoride, chloride, bromide or iodide are prepared by condensing organic sulphides of the general formula R1-S-R2 with omega-halogeno-ketones, which may be alkyl, aryl or mixed alkyl-aryl. Dimethyl phenacyl sulphonium bromide is specified. Compounds in which X is a hydroxyl, cyanide, isocyanate or thiocyanate anion are also mentioned.ALSO:Artificial filaments are produced by spinning viscose containing at least 0.01 millimoles per 100 gms. of cellulose in the viscose of an organic sulphonium compound having the general formula <FORM:0829499/IV (a)/1> where R1 and R2 are alkyl or aryl groups containing 8 carbon atoms or less, R3 is a ketone residue and X is an anion having no appreciable surface activity, i.e. hydroxyl, fluoride, chloride, bromide, iodide, cyanide, isocyanate or thiocyanate, into an aqueous coagulating bath containing sulphuric acid, sodium sulphate and zinc sulphate. Suitable sulphonium compounds may be prepared by the condensation of organic sulphides of the formula R1-S-R2 with a halide of an omega-halogeno-ketone which may be alkyl, aryl or mixed alkyl-aryl. Dimethyl phenacyl sulphonium bromide is specified. The filaments may be stretched in a subsequent heated bath. |
