titleOfInvention | A novel amido-phosphate ester and acrylonitrile polymers flame-proofed therewith |
abstract | The invention comprises 2 - cyanoethyl N,N,N1,N1-tetramethyldiamidophosphate which may be used in flameproofing acrylonitrile polymers and copolymers (see Group IV(a)). It may be prepared by heating tetramethyldiamido monochlorophosphate with 2-cyanoethanol in the presence of triethylamine, e.g. at 75-85 DEG C.ALSO:Polyacrylonitrile and acrylonitrile copolymers containing at least 70% by weight of acrylonitrile are rendered flame-proof by the incorporation of 2-cyanoethyl N,N,N1,N1-tetramethyldiamidophosphate. The acrylonitrile polymer may be admixed with another polymeric material, e.g. one exhibiting an affinity for dyestuffs, in such proportions that the mixture contains at least 70% by weight of acrylonitrile units. The molecular weight of the polymers is generally greater than 10,000, preferably greater than 25,000, e.g. 40,000 to 250,000. The amount of the phosphate is generally 2-20% by weight based on the polymer. Shaped articles may be prepared by conventional wet or dry spinning processes of solutions of the polymer containing the phosphate. Specified copolymers are those of acrylonitrile with vinyl acetate, vinyl and vinylidene chlorides, dimethyl maleate and fumarate, methyl and glycidyl acrylates and methacrylates, methacrylonitrile, styrene, vinyl, allyl and methallyl chloroacetates, vinyl pyridines, allyl and methallyl glycidyl ethers and allyl glycidyl phthalate. Specified solvents for the acrylonitrile polymers are dimethyl formamide and acetamide, ethylene carbonate and cyanoacetamide. |
