abstract Organo tin compounds are prepared by reacting an organomagnesium chloride complex of formula RMgCl.nQ, wherein R is a substituted or unsubstituted aryl radical or a substituted or unsubstituted heterocyclic radical which exhibits aromatic or pseudo-aromatic characteristics, which includes in its heterocyclic ring an oxygen, sulphur or tertiary nitrogen atom and which is bound to magnesium through a carbon atom of an aromatic or heterocyclic ring, R containing no functional group which is reactive under the conditions for the formation of the complex, Q is a cyclic ether (as defined in the Specification) and n is an indeterminate number of the order of 1 to 3, with a compound of formula R1ySnX4-y, wherein X is a halogen atom, R1 is a monovalent hydrocarbon radical and y is 0, 1, 2 or 3. Comprehensive lists of radicals R are given in the Specification, together with a large number of examples. Specifications 776,993 and 779,100 are referred to.ALSO:Polyvinyl chloride compositions are stabilized against deterioration by light and heat by compounds of formula R1aRbSnCl4-a-b, wherein is a substituted or unsubstituted aryl radical or a substituted or unsubstituted heterocyclic radical having aromatic or pseudo-aromatic characteristics and containing an oxygen, sulphur or tertiary nitrogen atom in the ring, R1 is a monovalent hydrocarbon radical, a is 0 or an integer from 1 to 4, b is an integer from 1 to 4 the sum of a + b being not greater than 4. Specified R groups include p-chlorophenyl, o-tolyl, p-anisyl, trichlorobiphenyl, dimethylaminophenyl, a -thienyl, 5-chlorothienyl, 6-quinolyl, 2-quinolyl, and phenyl. Specified R1 groups include butyl, thienyl and vinyl.
