titleOfInvention Process for the manufacture of a diamine
abstract N : N-Dimethylethylenediamine is prepared by reacting a b -halogeno-ethylamine or a salt thereof with an aqueous solution of dimethylamine, preferably, when a salt is used, in presence of an acid-binding agent which may be an excess of dimethylamine, an inorganic carbonate or an inorganic base, e.g. an alkali or alkaline earth metal hydroxide or carbonate. Suitable salts of b -halogenoethylamines are those with hydrohalic acids or sulphuric acid and the preferred temperature range is from 20 DEG to 40 DEG C. In examples, the hydrochloride of b -chlorethylamine is reacted with aqueous dimethylamine in presence of sodium hydroxide. Specification 744,996 is referred to.
