titleOfInvention | Improvements in or relating to compounds for combating micro-organisms |
abstract | The invention comprises acylamino phenyl mercury salts of formula <FORM:0822238/IV (a)/1> wherein "Acyl" is a carboxylic acid radical and X is an inorganic or organic anion. The acyl group may be the residue of a saturated or unsaturated aliphatic carboxylic acid, aromaticaliphatic carboxylic acid or aromatic carboxylic acid, for example, formic acid, acetic acid, propionic acid, butyric acid, valeric acid, stearic acid, palmitic acid, crotonic acid, acrylic acid, oleic acid, phenyl-acetic acid, phenylpropionic acid, benzoic acid and a - and b -naphthoic acids. Preferably the acyl-NH group is para to the mercury-anion group. The anion X is preferably acetate, but propionate, butyrate, halide (especially chloride and bromide) and phosphate are also specified. The compounds of the invention may be prepared by mixing an aqueous solution of mercury acetate with aniline and acylating the p-amino-phenyl-mercury acetate produced with an acid anhydride. The products may be used in fungicidal and bactericidal compositions (see Group VI).ALSO:Bactericidal and fungicidal compositions comprise a carrier and as active ingredient, an acylaminophenylmercury salt of formula <FORM:0822238/VI/1> where "acyl" is a carboxylic acid radical and X is an inorganic or organic anion. The acyl group may be derived from formic, acetic, propionic, butyric, valeric, stearic, palmitic, crotonic, acrylic, oleic, phenylacetic, phenylpropionic, benzoic or a - or b -naphthoic acids. X is preferably acetate, but propionate, butyrate, chloride, bromide and phosphate are also specified. The active compound may be mixed with a solid pulverulent inert carrier (e.g. kaolin, chalk, clay, colloidal silicic acid, infusorial silica, or magnesium marlstone) or dissolved or dispersed in a liquid carrier (e.g. cyclohexanone, methyl ethyl ketone, acetone or watchmaker's oil). Fatty alcohol sulphonates, adhesives, wetting-agents may also be incorporated. The preparation may be prepared using methyl chloride as a propellant for use as an aerosol. |
