titleOfInvention | Alloys of beryllium |
abstract | Alloys of beryllium with at least one of the metals plutonium, actinium, americium, curium, thorium, uranium and cerium are formed by mixing beryllium with a halide or halides of the other constituent or constituents and heating the mixture in vacuum at a temperature, in the range 1000-1350 DEG C, which is above the melting point of at least one of the constituents, but below the volatilization temperatures of any of them, to reduce the halide and alloy the reduced metal with beryllium. Examples of the production of alloys of beryllium with (a) plutonium, (b) uranium and (c) uranium and actinium, by reduction of the corresponding fluorides, are given in the Specification. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 752,441. |
