titleOfInvention Photographic elements containing light-screening substances
abstract Azo dyes of the general formula <FORM:0820738/IV(c)/1> (and tautomeric forms thereof), wherein R is an aryl or substituted aryl group, are prepared by intermixing the diazonium salt of an amine R-NH2 with b -methylglutaconic anhydride. R may be phenyl, naphthyl or phenyl substituted by one or two groups selected from sulpho, carboxy, halogen, nitro, cyano, sulphonamido, hydroxyl, alkoxy, aryloxy, aryl, alkyl, alkyl-sulphonyl, arylsulphonyl, carbalkoxy, carbamido or a guanidine salt of a sulpho group. Examples are given of the reaction of the diazonium salt of sulphanilic acid, 5-amino-isophthalic acid or 2-amino-5-toluenesulphonic acid with b -methylglutaconic anhydride. Specifications 503,752, [Group XX], and 663,005 are referred to.
