titleOfInvention Veterinary compositions containing cyanacethydrazide
abstract Veterinary compositions suitable for oral administration to domestic livestock comprise not less than 0.1% by weight of cyanacethydrazide, at least one additional component selected from stabilizing agents for cyanacethydrazide and compounds of known veterinary utility when administered orally, and optionally a non-toxic diluent or diluent mixture. The stabilizing agent which may be present between 0.05% and 5% by weight, is one or more water-soluble sulphur oxyacids and/or the salts thereof which possess reducing properties, e.g. sulphur dioxide in the form of sulphurous acid, sulphites, metabisulphites, hydrosulphites, particularly the alkali metal, e.g. sodium, or alkaline earth metal salts. The compounds of known veterinary utility may be an antibacterial, e.g. sulphonamides such as sulphadimidine, an antibiotic, e.g. penicillin, potassium penicillin V, an antihelmintic agent, e.g. phenothiazine, hexachloroethane, piperazine and its derivatives such as tripiperazine dicitrate, 1-diethyl carbamyl-4-methyl piperazine and the dihydrogen citrate thereof, piperazine diacetate, piperazine dihydrochloride and mineral salt mixtures, e.g. mixtures containing sodium and magnesium salts. Suitable diluents may be liquid, e.g. water or milk, or solid which may be soluble or insoluble in water, e.g. chalk, kaolin, talc, urea, lactose, other known pharmaceutical excipients and animal foodstuff, e.g. maize starch paste, ground oats, mucilage of tragacanth. Other adjuvants include dispersing agents such as phenol-ethylene oxide condensation products, e.g. condensation product of p-cresol with 8-10 molecular proportions of ethylene oxide, of formaldehyde and naphthalene sulphonic acids, e.g. sodium di-isopropyl naphthalene sulphonate, disodium methylene-bis-naphthalene-2-sulphonate fatty acid esters of glycerol, e.g. polyglyceryl ricinoleate; anti-caking agents, e.g. calcium phosphate, magnesium sulphate and stearate; suspending agents, e.g. hydrated aluminium silicate, sodium chloride. The composition may take the form of aqueous solutions or suspensions, powders or premixes suitable for admixture with animal feeding stuff, tablets or capsules, e.g. gelatin capsules, and in animal feeding stuffs. Specifications 817,143, 817,358, 817,380 and 818,467 are referred to.
