titleOfInvention | Improvements in and relating to cellulosic materials in sheet form |
abstract | 819,782. Anti - tarnishing paper &c. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Aug. 31, 1955 [Aug. 31, 1954; June 1, 1955], Nos. 24897/55 and 24898/55. Divided out of 819,781. Class 96. [Also in Group XVII] Paper, e.g. jewellers' tissue, strawboard, millboard, or other fibre-based cellulosic sheet material is coated or impregnated with one or more of the chromates or phosphates of copper to protect metals, particularly silver, copper, or their alloys, wrapped therein from tarnishing by sulphur compounds. The protective material, amounting to at least 5 per cent by weight of the base material, can be applied by dipping in or spraying with a solution, by interaction between, two soluble salts (the residual soluble salt being washed out, if desired), by adding it to the pulp, or by incorporating it in a wax coating. According to one of the Provisional Specifications, the protective material may be chromium sulphate or one or more salts of chromic, nitrous, or phosphoric acid, e.g. copper, lead, or zinc chromate, cyclohexylamine chromate, quinoline mono- or dichromate or other amine chromate, copper or lead phosphate, or lead nitrate. The other Provisional Specification refers to the use as protective material of the hydroxides, chromates, or phosphates of metals other than the alkali and alkaline earth metals, e.g. copper, lead, mercury, manganese, nickel, iron, cobalt, cadmium and bismuth, or cadmium or cobalt nitrate. |
