Flooring material comprises a matrix 1 of cement, wood, gypsum and calcium carbonate together with a binder or a hardener or both, in which matrix are embedded pieces 3 of the same composition but of a different colour or colours. The embedded pieces themselves may be patterned and include inserts 5 of the same colour as the matrix 1. The composition may include rubber latex as a binder and ground marble as a filler, or magnesium chloride as a binder with magnesite sawdust pulp fillers and pigments.
