titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to the manufacture and treatment of porous rubber and like materials
abstract The resistance to compression of a resilient foam material having intercommunicating cells is increased by wetting the material throughout with a liquid medium containing a colloid consisting of gelatinized starch, casein, or a alginate, and then drying the material, thereby depositing the colloid on the cell walls. The foam material may consist of a reaction product of a polyester and an organic di-isocyanate. Specification 730,848, [Group V], also is referred to.ALSO:The resistance to compression of a resilient foam material having intercommunicating cells is increased by wetting the material throughout with a liquid medium containing a lyophilic colloid consisting of gelatinised starch, casein, or an alginate and then drying the material, thereby depositing the colloid on the cell walls. The foam material may be prepared from vulcanized, unvulcanized, or partly vulcanized latex of natural or synthetic rubber, gutta percha, balata, or a reaction product of a polyester and an organic di-isocyanate. In one method of dispersion of starch in water containing 1 to 5 per cent, by weight of starch is boiled to gelatinize the starch, cooled and then applied to a foam rubber cushion by spraying or dipping to wet the material throughout, and the material is dried by warm air. In a further example a foam cushion prepared from a latex mix containing starch as described in Specification 816,853 is treated with a sodium alginate solution. Specification 730,848 also is referred to.
