titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to therapeutic compositions containing calcium acid novobiocin
abstract A therapeutic composition comprises as its essential active ingredient calcium acid novobiocin (monocalcium novobiocin) and as a primary surfactant therefor, a water-soluble, pharmaceutically acceptable salt of lauryl sulphuric acid, dispersed in an aqueous vehicle. Specified salts are the aluminium, ammonium, calcium, magnesium, potassium and sodium, the latter being preferred. A secondary surfactant (long list provided) should be incorporated to reduce foaming. Examples disclose compositions containing in addition to the antibiotic and primary surfactant, methyl paraben, propyl paraben, sorbitan trioleate, polyoxyethylene sorbitan trioleate, tragacanth and sugar.
