titleOfInvention Process for the production of 1:2-diphenyl-4-n-butyl-3:5-dioxo-pyrazolidine
abstract 1 : 2 - Diphenyl - 4 - n - butyl - 3 : 5 - dioxopyrazolidine is produced by reducing 1 : 2-diphenyl - 4 - butyryl - 3 : 5 - dioxopyrazolidine according to Wolff-Kishner by converting it into the hydrazone or semicarbazone and decomposing these by means of alkali metal hydroxide or alcoholate at an elevated temperature. Decomposition of the hydrazone (obtainable by heating the starting material with hydrazine hydrate) is advantageously effected with potassium hydroxide at 180-200 DEG C. (as illustrated by an example), and that of the semicarbazone by heating with an alkali metal alcoholate (e.g. sodium ethoxide) in a closed vessel, or under normal pressure in a high-boiling solvent (e.g. triethylene glycol or benzyl alcohol). Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 779,507.
