titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to shampoo compositions
abstract A shampoo composition comprises (1) a detergent, (2) a selenium sulphide of the formula SexSy, where x+y=8, which may be present to the extent of 0.25-5 per cent, (3) an antiseptic of the formula <FORM:0809689/III/1> where Z is -CH2- or -S- and R and R1 together represent up to 6 substituent chlorine atoms and (4) sodium carboxy methylcellulose, generally in a proportion of about 1 per cent. Detergents mentioned are sodium lauryl sulphate or sodium alkylbenzene sulphonate, and these may be present in a proportion of about 25 per cent by weight. Suitable antiseptics are 2 : 21 - methylene - bis - (3 : 4 : 6 - trichlorophenal) (hexachlorophene) or 2 : 21-thio-bis-(4 : 6-dichlorophenal (bithional), generally in a proportion of 0.1-5 per cent. The shampoos are preferably in the form of creams. Citric acid, cetanol, and sodium phosphate may also be present. Specification 353,970 is referred to.ALSO:A cosmetic shampoo composition that may be used in conjunction with permanent waving, bleaching or colouring processes on the hair, comprises a detergent, a selenium sulphide SexSy, where xry = 8 an antiseptic of general formula <FORM:0809689/VI/1> where Z is CH2 or S and R and R1 together represent up to 6 substituent chlorine atoms and sodium carboxy methylcellulose. Examples of suitable antiseptics are 2 : 21-methylene-bis-(3 : 4 : 6-trichlorophenol) known as hexachlorophene and 2 : 21 - thio - bis - (4 : 6 - dichlorophenol) known as bithional. The shampoo is used preferably as a cream, and as such, contains from 0.25 to 5 per cent by weight of the selenium sulphide and from 1 to 5 per cent by weight of the antiseptic above, and may contain other substituents such as cetanol, citric acid and sodium phosphate to buffer the composition at about pH 6. Suitable detergents exemplified are sodium lauryl sulphate or a sodium alkyl benzene sulphonate. Specification 353,970 is referred to.
