abstract A composite material comprises a rubber composition in which are embedded single or doubled yarns each comprising a core of continuous filamentary material, e.g. regenerated cellulose, nylon, or polyethylene glycol terephthalate filaments, covered by a layer of staple fibres, e.g. one of the above-mentioned materials or cotton. The yarns may be coated with a latex resorcinol-formaldehyde composition to improve adhesion of the yarn to the rubber.
