titleOfInvention Process for the production of electrolytic copper coatings
abstract 807,574. Electrodeposition of bright copper. DEHYDAG DEUTSCHE HYDRIERWERKE G.m.b.H. March 11, 1955 [March 13, 1954], No. 7161/55. Class 41. To ensure the production of bright copper deposits from baths containing inorganic impurities such as are present in hard water and commercial copper salts used in making the bath copper is electrodeposited from an aqueous acid bath to which is added before or during electroplating in addition to one or more lustring agents one or more organic compounds containing at least two trivalent nitrogen atoms and no neutralized or unneutralized carboxyl groups and selected from one of the following groups : (a) compounds of the formula where X is a divalent cyclic or acylic hydrocarbon group and each of R 1 , R 2 , R 3 and R 4 is hydrogen or a hydrocarbon group, and the several groups may be interrupted by or possess substituent groups containing oxygen and/or nitrogen; (b) compounds similar to those of (a) above but in which X is omitted; (c) saturated or unsaturated heterocyclic compounds containing one trivalent nitrogen atom in a ring containing only carbon and nitrogen atoms and one trivalent nitrogen atom in a substituent group; and (d) saturated or unsaturated heterocyclic compounds containing two trivalent nitrogen atoms in a ring containing only carbon and nitrogen atoms. Specified examples in the four groups are (a) ethylene diamine and its diphenyl, di- and tetra-ethyl and -ethanol N-substituted derivatives, propylene diamine, tetra- and hexa-methylene diamines, diethylenetriamine, triethylenetetramine, 1: 3 bis (diethylamino) propanol-2, 4-amino and 4: 4<SP>1</SP> diamino diphenylamine, 1: 2- and 1: 4-phenylene diamines, benzidene, 1: 4-naphthylene diamine, 4: 4<SP>1</SP>-diamino diphenyl methane; (b) hydrazine and phenyl hydrazine; (c) amino-substituted pyridine, quinoline lepidine, carbazole and acridine compounds; and (d) pyrazole and its 1- phenyl derivative, glyoxaline, imidazole and its 2-methyl, benz- and 2-phenyl benz-derivatives, pyrazine and its 2: 5-dimethyl and diphenyl derivatives, quinoxaline, phenazine pyrimidine and its amino, methyl, hydroxy, phenyl and hexahydro derivatives, quinzaoline and its di- and tetra-hydro derivatives, pyridazine and its 3-methyl and 3-phenyl derivatives, maleic acid hydrazide, phthalazine, cinnoline ; phthalazone and piperazine and its methyl, ethyl, hydroxymethyl, hydroxyethyl, phenyl and benzyl derivatives, 2: 5 diketo piperazine and its N: N<SP>1</SP>-diethyl derivative. Examples of suitable brighteners specified are those of the kind disclosed in Specification 762,257. Specifications 710,474 and 736,230 also are referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 762,257.
