titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to the manufacture of shaped objects from polyamides or polyurethanes by extrusion
abstract Shaped articles other than threads or films, e.g. profiles, rods, toys, tubes, bottles and the like made from polyamides or polyurethanes, are obtained by extrusion by blending the polymers with a maximum of 2 per cent by weight of halogen substituted trialkylesters of an acid derived from a phosphorus oxide, e.g. tri-monochloroethyl-ortho phosphate, trimonochloropropylorthophosphate, diethyl - beta - chloroethylphosphate, ethyl - di - beta - chloro - ethylphosphate; tri-beta-chlorethyl phosphite. The polyamides are preferably derived from e -caprolactam in presence of phosphoric acid or acetic acid as stabilizer, the polymer being washed to such an extent that the content of watersoluble low molecular component is less than 2.5 per cent. Mixtures of polyamides and/or polyurethanes may be used. (1) Granules of a polyamide formed from e -caprolactam were rolled for 30 seconds with 0.2 per cent by weight of tri-monochloropropyl ortho phosphate and then extruded horizontally to form a tube. (2) A poly urethane prepared from hexa methylenedi iso cyanate and 1.4 butane diol was similarly treated. (3) Cadmium yellow, cadmium red and carbon black are incorporated into the mix used in Example (1), an article having a tortoise-shell appearance was obtained.
