titleOfInvention Novel amides and process for the manufacture thereof
abstract The invention comprises amides of the general formula <FORM:0806879/IV (b)/1> wherein R stands for an alkyl group or for a phenyl or benzyl group which may contain one or more alkyl groups as substituents in the nucleus, and alkali-metal and ammonium salts thereof and a process for the manufacture thereof which comprises treating with ammonia a 4,5 - benz - 2,6 - dioxa - phosphorinanone - (3) 1-oxide which contains as a substituent in the 1-position the group OR, wherein R stands for an alkyl group or for a phenyl or benzyl group which may contain one or more alkyl groups as substituents in the nucleus, and, if desired, converting the ammonium salts so obtained into an alkali metal salt or the free amide by treatment with the appropriate alkali-metal hydroxide (while removing the ammonia by air aspiration or by conducting the treatment in a vacuum) or by a cationic exchange where the salt is required or by hydrogen ion exchange where the acid is required; or by debenzylating a diester of 2-carbamyl-phenyl phosphate in which one ester group contains a benzyl radical and the other the group R aforesaid, by treating same with an alkali-metal thiocyanate, and if desired converting the product into a further salt or the free amide where appropriate. A suitable solvent for the process is dioxane or diethyl ether. Examples disclose the production of the ammonium salts of 2-carbamylphenyl-phenyl phosphate, 2-carbamyl-phenyl benzyl phosphate, 2-carbamyl-phenyl 2-methylphenyl phosphate, 2-carbamyl-phenyl 3-methylphenyl phosphate, 2-carbamyl-phenyl 4-methylphenyl phosphate, 2-carbamyl-phenyl 3,5-dimethyl-phenyl phosphate, 2-carbamyl-phenyl 2 - isopropyl - 5 - methyl - phenyl phosphate, and 2-carbamyl-phenyl 2,6-dimethyl-phenyl phosphate, and of the potassium salt of 2-carbamyl-phenyl ethyl phosphate.
