titleOfInvention Esters of halides of dibasic organic acids
abstract The invention comprises compounds of the formula ROOC(CH2)4CH(SR1)CH2COX (wherein R is an hydrocarbon group, R1 is an acyl group and X is an halogen atom) and their preparation by reacting an appropriate 7-monoester of a 3-acylthio-7-carboxyheptanoic acid with a halogenating agent, preferably thionyl chloride. Other halogenating agents referred to are phosphorus halides and oxyhalides. In examples: (1) 3-acetylthio-7-carboethoxyheptanoyl chloride is prepared by treating the appropriate acid with excess of thionyl chloride at room temperature; (2) and (3) the (+)- and (-)-enantiomorphs are similarly prepared from the (+)- and (-)-enantiomorphs of 3-acetylthio7 - carboethoxyheptanoic acid; (4) 3 - butyrylthio-7-carbophenoxyheptanoyl chloride is prepared similarly and it is stated that 3-propionylthio - 7 - carbomethoxyheptanoyl chloride, 3-benzoylthio - 7 - carbophenoxyheptanoyl chloride, 3 - acetylthio - 7 - carbobenzoxyheptanoyl chloride, 3 - butyrylthio - 7 - carboethenoxy heptanoyl chloride and 3-phenylacetylthio-7-carboethoxyheptanoyl chloride are also produced by chlorination of the corresponding heptanoic acids and that the corresponding bromides are similarly prepared. Specification 805,296 also is referred to.
